Shelving Tips

Why Choose us over conventional type of shelving?

If you are looking for a suitable storage solution, there would be several types of shelving systems being offered. The most commonly seen type are those conventional type (bolt and nut series with plywood panels).

Before selecting any type of shelving you may want to consider the following:

1. Bolt and nut shelving series offer plywood panels – Tends to attract termites if not properly taken care..Hence please buy those wood that is already fumigated.

2. Bolt and nuts systems as its name mentioned, all joints of the shelving are bolted up. Which means adjustment of intervals would be tough. Dismantling and installation would be a hard job as well. According to SCDF requirements, there should be no fixed fixtures inside bombshelter, in case of emergency its required to be removed immediately.

3. Bolt and nuts systems uses metal slotted structure usually brown in color, can be obtained at most hardware shops. However they have no epoxy coating on its surface hence would attract rust easily.

4. The strength or payload capacity of the shelving would be compromised or lessen if one/more of the many bolt/nut gets loosened over times.

How To Select Suitable Shelving or Racking
If you are looking for a suitable storage solution, before selecting any type of shelving you will need to know the approximate sizes and weight of the items you are intending to store, as well as the amount of space you have available to accommodate the racking.

It important to know the approximate size and weight of the items you are going to need store for as an item can be large but very light in weight, or smaller but relatively heavy, which consequently will determine the type of racking you need to select. As far as space goes, it might seem obvious to the eye that you have a vast warehouse or a small store room. It is important to make a note of how much vertical space you have too. Lshape/Ushape shelving may be a good option if space allows.

When you have determined the size and weight of the items you need to store and how much space you have, it is time to decide what type of racking to go for. There are many types of racking available, bolted and boltless, pallet racks, mini racking, mezzanine, or some major ones. All of these racking types can be static or mobile, drive in/through, push backs, and live, in their application. Due to strength gained from the use of sturdy bolts, bolted racking is a widely-used form of racking both industrially and commercially. Boltless shelving, on the other hand, uses clips / claws instead of bolts which give this type of shelving the added advantage of being highly adjustable and not compromising its strength.

Pallet racking is a type of racking that is manufactured in different sizes and lengths to fit goods with a variety of sizes and weights stacked on pallets, most commonly for industrial usage.

How To Load Your Shelf

Large bulk and heavy items should be placed on the bottom shelves. This will help stabilize your rack. Lighter items and rarely used items should be placed at the higher decking of the shelf.

As the length of the racking or shelving increases, the Uniformly Distributed Load(UDL) capacity of it decreases (less around 50-100 kg/level). A good practice is to place heavier things on both sides and lighter things in the center. (Refer to diagram below).

How To Measure Your Store Room

  • Be sure your measuring tape measure is at least 3 metre. And it’s always a good idea to have a friend help you measure. The measurement will be more accurate when two can hold the tape straight and tightly.
  • Measure the Length and Width of the store room should be done wall-to-wall laying the measuring tape on the ground. Most walls has floor edge, therefore the measuring should touch the edge-to-edge.
  • Always give some space allowance, fitting a shelf tightly to the space is not advisable.
  • Measure the height of the store room to the ceiling. Take note of the location of obstructing items such as electrical outlet, electrical box and etc.

Do contact us for free on-site measurements, better advisory at no obligation.
